Our Main Character Enters The Stage, 2019
While working on the books of The Main Cast, I thought a lot about the potential metaphorical meaning of each of the separate spaces. This is how I came up with the installation/sculpture of Our Main Character Enters The Stage.
I tried to, in a small text (you could call it a very-short-story), describe what happens once the main character of the story enters a space - in this case I chose the example of the Theatre. I tried to grasp what the place does with the character (does it change how he feels/acts/looks), as well as what it does with the relationship of the reader with the character.
I built a small stage that the viewer of the installation will have to climb on in order to be able to read the text that’s installed on the wall. A strong, theatrical spotlight is aimed at the stage, in such a way that when the viewer steps on the stage to read the text, his/her shadow will be visible next to the text. By doing so, I hope to ‘guide’ the experience of the viewer reading the story, and in a way turning the viewer into the main character that’s described in the story.
